چکیده
In earlier combination chemotherapy regimens for childhood acute lymphocytic leukemia, nervous system leukemia terminated complete remission in over half the patients in a median time of 11 months. In the present study, cranial radiation (2400 R, 60Co) and intrathecal methotrexate given early in remission were added to combination chemotherapy in an attempt to prevent or delay central nervous system relapse

The Effects of Prophylactic Treatment of the Central Nervous System on the Intellectual Functioning Of Children with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia
Abstract Objective The great majority of patients with childhood leukemia become long-term survivors. They treated with chemotherapy and prophylactic central nervous system (CNS) irradiation. The aim of this cross-sectional study was to evaluate effect of the long-term toxicity in ALL survivors, and possible effects of this treatment on their intellectual in compare with their sibling. متن کاملCentral nervous system relapse prophylaxis in acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) intrathecal chemotherapy with and without cranial irradiation
Background: Central Nervous System (CNS) relapse in acute lymphoblastic leukemia was significantly decreased due to the use of new chemotherapyeutic agents, Intrathecal chemotherapy and cranial irradiation. The purpose of this study was to compare the effectiveness of intrathecal (IT) CNS chemotherapy alone versus combination of IT chemotherapy with cranial irradiation for prevention of CNS rel...

acute lymphocytic leukemia, we studied the clinical courses of 17 patients who had relapsed in the bone marrow after elective cessation of therapy and had been treated again with systemic combination chemotherapy without meningeal prophylaxis. Sixteen patients attained second complete remission and were followed for 3-5 yr. Each child relapsed during continuation chemotherapy: 8 in the bone mar...
متن کاملIdentification of risk groups for development of central nervous system leukemia in adults with acute lymphocytic leukemia.
The risk of development of CNS leukemia was investigated in 153 adults with acute lymphocytic leukemia (ALL) who received systemic combination chemotherapy without CNS prophylaxis. Overall, 31 patients (20%) developed CNS leukemia after a median of 6 months of therapy; the estimated 1-year incidence of CNS leukemia was 21% (SE, 3.9%). Characteristics significantly associated with CNS involvemen...

The standard therapy for thyroid cancer is total or near total thyroidectomy, followed by the administration of radioactive iodine for remnant ablation or residual disease. Patients with radioiodine therapy are predisposed to second malignant neoplasms in organs such as central nervous system (CNS), breast, prostate, kidney, bone marrow, salivary gland, and digestive tract. Exposure to carcinog...
